Total scam. AVOID THIS PLACE The guide from Delight Tours India (Laxman Singh, also known as Lucky) deceived and coerced us into visiting this Ali Baba's cave, where over forty thieves harassed us to the extent that we ended up buying a ring just to escape. We chose the stone (a star ruby), and they told us that it would be set in silver by the next day. Upon collecting it, it appeared to be correct, but the stone turned out to be different (full of imperfections that the one we purchased did not have), and the setting was not silver but a cheap metal that deteriorated within two days. A complete scam and at an exorbitant price. Avoid at all costs.

It is a very well established scheme to cheat tourists. I was shopping and a very “considerate” local advised me that I should go to the Indian Loom since is a governmental owned place and everything is cheaper there. He also offered to arrange transportation. Obviously the reality is very different, do not esitate to answer in a very direct way that you are not interested. Unfortunately sometimes the only way to get rid of them is being sharp.

Dishonest and misleading!! Do not believe a single word these people say. Quality of their products is average and not as they describe to be. We purchased a rug where they promised to factor in import duties to the final price. However once the rug arrived on shore DHL called saying they weren’t paid. Followed up with Indian loom, and they refused to pay, leaving us an additional $300 out of pocket. They also promised to post within a week, however it took 5 weeks to post (after following up numerous times). Furthermore, they promised to send a picture of the family that made the rug, to no avail. We also purchased some smaller rugs to hang on the wall, which they promised to affix the wall attachment too. This wasn’t done either. We were also query “value for money” as we found similar rugs elsewhere for 30% less. Excellent at making promises, terrible at following through. I strongly suggest to go elsewhere.

Its a tourist shop! End of story. However, i can afford to pay a little extra for the service. I rather buy something in this shop then on the street due to the quality. Thank you for a nice explaination about Kashmir carpets. Remember to bargain 😉
