Very good collection of books. I had to buy few books that I wanted to use as return gifts for my son's b'day. I knew almost every kid's charater on the guest list, and these guys helped me find out books as per the character I described. They also have a Lil cozy place where my son sat and kept reading books while we made our purchase.

loved how they were supporting deaf and mute artists, cafe was not it tho. pictures weren't allowed? which is so stupid. i mean i took them anyways but an employee kept bothering me about it? and when asked, said that he didnt work there. i dont know what was up with that. cafe had some pretty stale looking food. and the prices of all the books were jacked up you could get them for cheaper online but because the vibes were so good, i'd say it's worth a visit

Well, first thing first. This was a dear old book store, one of the best in Delhi, quite some years ago under a different name and across the street where the famous Statesman House stands. In the first couple of years after it "crossed" the road to the other side, it still seemed like a good book store (though not great by any stretch of imagination). Then started first the gradual and then rapid decline. Now, in my opinion, it's NOT a book store anymore. There are books and people milling about, looking at books (apparently, just looking), there are sales people, trying their best to respond to queries — some genuine, some with no understanding what books are meant for, and there's some book-selling going on as well; but it's not a book store. The vibes are all wrong. There is music, which itself is the wrong thing to do in a book store, and on top of that, it's the totally wrong kind of music — the day we visited last, they were playing salsa music!! The have been selling trinkets in one corner (one sad looking fellow mends it who seems not interested at all in selling trinkets), prior to that they opened a cafe where many non-book people head straight to (I guess most of the customers are not coming to book store, just passing it by). And prior to that a poetry reading or public reading corner was set up years ago. Unfortunately, NOTHING is working. Everything they are trying is just wrong, because the main thing they should be concentrating on books, seem to have taken a back seat. So, my suspicion is that the book store is now run by some people who have no idea of what books are supposed to do. The two lonely behind-the-desk persons from the northeast (surely paid peanuts for their efforts) are valiantly trying to swim in very rough waters, they are not trained properly and are simply responding to queries by guess work. I have no idea why it is still called Oxford Book Store, the original store is nowhere visible, nothing of that excellent book place in the Statesman House is visible anymore, I am not even sure if they allowed to use the word 'Oxford', does OUP know about it, do Oxford book stores in Oxford or London know about it. Very soon, I predict that the book store will either be demolished or taken over by some other business. It is very sad indeed. I hope this not a sign of the times, I hope there are enough young people who know what books are and what they are meant to do.
