It,s very wonderful place for shopping 🛒🛒🛒 …
A day I approached with a blank mind, to absorb the maximum. Let ourselves be guided by Surekha's energy and deep knowledge of the labyrinthine lanes of Old Delhi, and be surprised by the sights and aromas that haunted our senses at each turn. An old mosque, a libray housing an age-old manuscript of the Akbarnama where you can't issue the books but can sit back and read - that's how precious each copy is! Eating out at the early morning indigineous bakeries making 'naan's at the black yet fragrant tandoors. Shops selling paayas - to go towards the famous Paaya curry, perhaps. Being hosted by one of the oldest families in a lane, where the head of the family, a man well in his 90s, recalled critically about the changes he saw from the 1920s to the Dilli of now, its loss, and an era gone by. Where I wished I was carrying a tape, and we had but a few more hours to listen to the fascinating stories he held in him. To let him color me the Dilli of old. And a trip to the terrace, where a boy of 19 takes forward the 'shauk' of 'kabootarbaazi' - a expensive hobby, and yet one which requires dedication, patience, and skilful training of the beautiful birds. Enjoyed the azaan from atop the high terrace overlooking Dilli till as far as the eye could see, dwarfed by the Jama Masjid's minarets close by. Thanks Surekha for a day I;ll not forget, and for introducing me to much of the charm that's Old Delhi. Some time soon again. :) I asked Surekha to guide me through Delhi for a day and a half. Our time was filled with visits to famous places around Delhi, but also with visits to off-the-beaten path areas, from villages with amazing Sufi music to parks to shops. It's difficult to pick my favorite, but I will never forget walking into the Sikh temple, the Hindu temple, the Jain temple and the mosque, all on the wonderfully crazy and hectic Chandi Chowk. We wandered around a village where Surekha arranged to have the local Sufi musicians play their captivating music "on the street corner." All the while, Surekha told me the history of what I was seeing. She has a great knowledge of architecture, and touring the Qtab Minar with her was fascinating. When she learned that I was heading to Agra (where the Taj Mahal is), she arranged for a guide in Agra to take me on a new walk through Old Agra that she had just done a few days prior with him. While on tour, Surekha also takes pictures of you--so I have lots of memories from the cd she burned for me. I went to Delhi alone, and, as a woman, was concerned about safety issues--and in part I chose Surekha because I wanted a female guide. I always felt safe with her and learned that (as in all places), if you're street smart and take basic precautions, Delhi is safe and a fascinating place to visit. I can't recommend Surekha enough Simply amazing. We were 18 people, mostly university students from the US, and learned more about history of India in one morning than I'd learned in years. We had one Indian friend with us who admitted that he didn't know half of what Surekha taught us in that one morning, though he had played on the same spot as a child with his parents. Surekha's passion and energy, and laughter, comes through with each step, as the history of Delhi comes to life. I can't wait to take further tours with Sure Surekha's unique guided walks are a wonderful way to discover and get to know the myriad charms and fascinations of all of Delhi's many cities. Sultanate, Lodi and Moghul ruins, the British before and after 1857, Sufi shrines, temples, mosques, people, food, shopping, flowering trees, birds (both in the wild and old Delhi's pigeon flying kabutabarzi). Surekha knows them all, and she generously shares her knowledge, curiosity and love of the many faces of Delhi. So her walkers can freely explore and be enchanted by this great ancient and modern
This market is not good because they are making cruelty with birds. There is so bad condition of baby birds. They give baby birds to anyone who is not able to care. And because of that they die.....I am so hurt after seeing it.
