Its a good market for all your daily needs be it food or grocery items. It also has a few eating joints and the famous "singing tree" or Raju da's chai. Here mainly young people come and sit for a cup of tea or two over their share of adda ( the quintessential bengali debate and discussion over any topic under the sun though the real favourite is of course politics). There is a good fish market and all things loved by bengalis. Overall its a good example of the perfect bengali marketplace.

Great place for many kinds of fishes and sea foods that mainly cater to the bengali tastebuds (Rohu, Katla, Hilsa, Prawns, Bhetki, Padba, Parshe, Shol, Tangra, Aair, Chitol, shutki, etc. And also crabs, Surmai, and Red snapper). Along with that there are several grocery stores that specialize in bengli grocery items like date palm jaggery, chanachur, posto, bengali sweet pickles etc. There are also puja item stores (dashakarma bhandar), bengali sweet shops and vegetable sellers selling items like kachur loti (thin and thick Taro stems), thor/bharali (edible core of banana plant), laal shak (red amaranthus), and mocha (banana flower).

Good place to buy fish. Price is on a higher side though. Decent snacks and food options available. Parking four wheeler here is big problem. It is better to use the Metro to arrive here. Good connectivity present.

Always feel good to be there.. lots of Kathi rolls, misti doi, chop and all famous Bengali foods. Plus local sabji from Kolkata add the flavour in it!!! Must visit place..

Earlier this market was a nightmare to negotiate due to the shanty type shacks that served as shops. But about 10 years back the old market was demolished and new buildings came up making this a more organised structure. The fish market is situated at one side and a favourite with bongs. Every type of fish is available from the more common Rohu to the more elitist Hilsa, kajoli and Golda Chingri... that is lobster. Fresh chicken is also available here. Specific items such as posto, panch phoron, thor, mocha etc, quintessential to Bengali cooking is this market's usp. There are a number of grocery shops and numerous eating places which serve everything from Bengali fish fry, macher jhol, alu posto to North Indian kebabs, dals, rotis and naans. Fast food places abound with shops doing fast business selling chicken, egg and vegetarian rolls, Chinese dishes, fries and chops. The evenings witness hungry hordes of young and older patrons partaking of these delicacies, washing them down with misti doi and rosogolla. The only con is parking, which is a nightmare during peak hours but in spite of all that this market is definitely worth a visit.

Good place to have some great spicy food. Roll 'N' Roast serves very tasty chicken wings. There is Baskin Robbins for dessert, the Kolkata biryani serves tasty chicken biryani and near by Kolkata biryani there is a stall of pani puri which is very good. In the centre there is daily grocery and other shops. You can buy green vegetables and variety of raw fish here. There is a temple also.
