Delhi Haat Cottage Emporium

I went today and spent a while in the shop, as I really wanted a Saree. I took my time and ended up also getting some spices and a small painting. Once I went back downstairs we spoke again about the price of the sari, and I was more accepting, but feel I still may have overpaid. When going to other shops and speaking with others, I paid normal price for tea and spices, not foreigners price. I spent a while speaking with the shop assistants and they provided me with chai and bottled water, and then delivered my sari to my hotel this evening. The delivery man was just over an hour later than they said he would be, but I hear this is normal and I had a similar experience in Jaipur with other custom made pieces. The stitching on the underskirt of the sari is pretty poor, so I am already thinking about making myself a new underskirt when I get home, but the chori is better, not perfect, but acceptable. Overall I am satisfied, but there is room for improvement and I was a bit nervous after reading some of the other comments while waiting for my sari to arrive this evening!!

It is a tourist trap. A network of tuk tuk drivers working with the store, plus insistent sales people. High prices. Do NOT confuse with Dilli Haat!!!

Great experience doing some last minute shopping for a wedding. MK was very patient and helpful.

Horrible experience, they continued to try to get us to buy things, even after we said we did not want it. They overcharged my card and distract us so we wouldn’t notice. They told me to charge my card in INR so it would be cheaper but that made it easier to scam us. They basically charged me $500 for 7 pashminas, they changed the price on us. The jeweler also insulted my culture and told me that Mexican’s don’t know about silver quality and kept trying to make me buy things. They also wouldn’t let us leave the store until they got more money out of us. We will never be back

Gopalan was a charming guide in this huge store, where you can find many good handcrafted objects, fine pieces of art.

They sent very bad quality products. And I sent all of them back but they don't refund the money! I will go to police in Dehli.

Scam. We were directed here by a tout who befriended us on the streets of Delhi and convinced us that all other markets were closed because of farmer protest. Sent us here and we agreed a deal for what turned out to be double fair market value on indian clothing. Came back 3 hours later after realising our mistake and threatened to go to the police (with the video of the tout approaching us on the street) and received a full refund after some intense discussions.
