The only reason I ho this market is for Lord chamcham the famous bengali sweet. Otherwise the market has a lot of eateries but the street food isnt what I like about the untidy place. A bit made congested by the shopkeepers themselves
Good market. Shops available according to Bengali tredition requirement. Almost all the material required for their livelihood is available in this market. Being the posh area prices are too high.
Nostalgic Bengalis beware of the wares on sales. Absurdly expensive . Many a times ,food items of inferior quality are pushed by decorated shops and they also mark up the prices during festivities
A great place for Kolkata Style Biryani. And a few great joints serving spicy snacks. Good place to hang out late in the evening. Very safe locality.
Good market for Fish lovers and good food. But only Bengali crowd and the market is not that large. Nearby areas are very posh. Great for Seafood Shopping!
Quintessential piece of Bengal in heart of Delhi !! The whiff of winter as the market started wakinng up with the lovely kulhad tea and breakfast of Puri sabji (luchi torkari) makes the perfect start of day for any Bengali ! From Bengali spices to obscure items in your list to Bengali magazines to a large fish market, in Delhi, if u miss Kolkata or bengal- this is the place to be !!
Good bengali food, costly though specially for those who have come from Kolkata, lovely fish market, and a very serene, calm and quiet Kali Mandir...
Nearest metro stations are nehru place and govind puri. Take an auto from there, hardly 10mins. Bengali specialties like fish cutlets, phuchka (golgappa), sweets, ghughni, mughlai porotha can be found here. Plenty for non- vegetrians and also for vegetarians. Big fish market catering to all fish lovers. Also visit market 2 which is slightly bigger and more diversified now.
If you want to have Bengali snacks, meals , want to buy raw fish of any variety then this is the place. Some cleaning is needed in the market. DDA should focus more on maintenance.
All the food and sweets that you can think of, are available here. And if you are a Bengali or are heavily influenced by Bengali culture, this is a little heaven in Delhi.
