Terrible Godrej retailer: This is my experience buying Godrej file cabinet. Short story: if you don't want hidden costs like cartage fee and unexpected price increase after placing your order then please go to Godrej-owned showroom on Asaf Ali Road. Long story: Here is why I feel cheated, I bought two Godrej filing cabinets from them. For first one, I visited their shop, I was given a quote of Rs 21,200 and I made an initial deposit. It is only at the time of delivery that I was told of paying the cartage fees. The employee talking to me outright said that it's their way or the highway. I told the employee that Godrej never charges for cartage fee and the guy bluntly said that Godrej showroom does not charge the cartage but they will. Ultimately, I had to call the owner of the shop and haggle for a while to get rid of the cartage fee (which was never quoted initially). Well, no worries, I needed another cabinet and thought I won't be asked for cartage fee second time I placed the order again. This time I specifically told the same employee that I won't be paying cartage and he happily took our order one more time. Two days later, surprise!! Sir the price of the cabinet has increased you have to pay Rs 700 more. I was livid with anger. After much haggling, I paid the initial price agreed upon price of Rs21,200 AND the cartage fees (Rs 150). While the above experience alone should suffice for this eminently deserving 1-star review, this is not the end. I needed another cabinet and this time I decided to go to Asaf Ali Road showroom. This was two days after I had received my second cabinet. I was told that the price of the cabinet has increased from that day (6th Jan) and the new price was Rs 21,253. The old price? Rs 20,500. So essentially I was charged Rs 700 extra per cabinet and on top of it I had to haggle for cartage fee as well. The showroom outright told me that they never charge for cartage. As a helpless consumer, the maximum I can do is warn others who might be tempted to buy Godrej furniture from these cheats. Please beware!
