I’m grateful to IDP for their role in helping me secure my student visa for a Master’s in IT in Australia. However, the process was far from smooth, and future applicants should be aware of several critical issues I encountered. 1. Misleading Advice on Education Loans : My counselor strongly advised me to apply for an education loan before finalizing my university (initially the University of Wollongong), assuring me that updating the sanction letter later would be simple. However, when I switched universities, the bank refused to amend the details, forcing me to restart the entire loan process from scratch. This led to unnecessary double expenses—notarization, processing fees, and e-stamping—which could have been avoided with clearer guidance. 2. Undisclosed Delays in University Processing : The University of Wollongong, which IDP initially recommended, had a lengthy 1.5–2-month Genuine Student (GS) assessment period. This crucial detail was never disclosed upfront. Had I known earlier, I might have chosen a university with a faster timeline, saving time and reducing stress. 3. Lack of Post-Arrival Support IDP promised comprehensive post-arrival assistance, including help with accommodation. In reality, my friend and I received little support and had to scramble to find housing last-minute. Additionally, the SIM cards provided by IDP were blank and unusable—we had to purchase new ones ourselves after arriving in Australia. Final Thoughts While I appreciate IDP’s role in my visa success, the experience was frustrating due to miscommunication, unmet promises, and a lack of transparency. I hope IDP takes this feedback seriously to improve their processes, particularly for students who are making significant life and financial commitments.
